Tree pruning Heist-op-den-Berg

This tree pruning in Heist-op-den-Berg was a fun job for our climbing team.

De Liquidambar styraciflua at the front door of the house is very large and has branches that reach up to the house.

The customer was also afraid that large branches would break out during a storm. And rightly so, because Liquidambar styraciflua or sweetgum is a very susceptible tree species.

And especially if large branches extend far beyond the crown.

That's why we are the pruning and taking back top-heavy branches and the tree also got one crown reduction.

The pruning the tree in Heist-op-den-Berg was a nice routine job that was of course carried out with the greatest care. Once you're passionate arborist you can no longer work any other way.

Both pruning and... chopping the branches and cleaning up the work environment.

Tree pruning in Heist-op-den-Berg

A Liquidambar styraciflua is a very susceptible tree to breakage. If the branches grow far and the tree is in very good condition and therefore has many leaves, a branch can sometimes break out due to the weight of the leaf mass.

Because the tree is located near the front door, next to the walking path to it, it is wise to prune the tree in a timely manner. So that no branches break out and no large pruning wounds have to be made.

Because if a branch tears out, there may be damage down to ground level, but the trunk of the tree is also damaged.

A tear in the trunk can later cause rot, which could cause you to lose the tree. And then you always wish to prevent it. That is why we pruned the tree in Heist-op-den-Berg.

Through the taking in the branches on the outside of the crown during pruning, this is called crown reduction, you remove weight at the furthest point.

And you do it that way because the tree pruning at that furthest place, you will relieve the most of the strain on the branch attachment at the height of the trunk. This greatly reduces the chance of a branch tearing out. And that is the result you want.

Detail final image after pruning the tree. The branches in the lower storey are slightly longer than in the middle storey. There is a reason for this. Because the tree has a narrow waist, the lower branches receive more light from above. This means that the lower branches do not droop as quickly and the tree invests more in the middle storey. This means that the tree will not have to be pruned again so quickly. Which is more financially attractive, but also better for the tree.

After pruning, chop the branches

Because the tree to be pruned in Heist-op-den-Berg is close to the street and is very easily accessible, we neatly stacked the branches on the driveway during pruning.

We can then chop the branches with our large chopper and blow them directly into the trailer. That saves time. Twice.

On the one hand, because we can use our large chopper. And on the other hand, because we can blow the chopped wood directly into the trailer and we don't have to work with wheelbarrows. And then cut them down onto the trailer one by one.
